Snorkeling in Hurghada: How to Plan Your Red Sea Boat Day

A good snorkelling day starts before you reach the marina. Choose the right boat format, understand the water stops and allow the crew to adapt the route to conditions.

Private speedboat or shared excursion?

A private speedboat gives your party its own boat and a shorter, more flexible programme. A shared boat day follows a coordinated route with other travellers and often combines reef stops with lunch and island time. Compare the actual inclusions rather than the name alone: hotel transfers, equipment, island admission and refreshments can differ. A four-hour private outing and an eight-hour shared excursion are different products, even when both mention snorkelling.

Tell the team about your swimming ability

Snorkelling is not automatically suitable for every guest. Discuss swimming confidence, children’s ages and any access needs before booking. Listen to the crew’s briefing and use the equipment they approve for the conditions. If someone prefers to remain on board, ask about shade, seating and whether the day’s boat is appropriate. Do not assume that a flotation aid replaces swimming ability or supervision.

What should you bring?

Prepare swimwear, a towel, sun protection and a way to keep valuables dry. Carry the contact details for your hotel pickup and check the return arrangement before leaving. Bring only what you need on the boat: shared deck space is limited. Check whether drinking water and equipment are included in your specific offer rather than packing according to a generic excursion advertisement.

Wildlife and reefs are not scheduled attractions

Sea conditions determine the suitable snorkelling sites. Dolphins may be absent, and no responsible itinerary should promise a sighting. Give wildlife space, never touch or stand on coral, and follow instructions about entering the water. Choose your trip for the complete Red Sea experience, including the boat setting and coastal scenery, so that the day does not depend on one animal encounter.
